BarriO
Guides

These are guides to the neighborhoods we love, curated by the makers and doers
from the cities we feature.

Eixample Esquerra, Barcelona

Curated by Editor Melissa Leighty

"Eixample esquerra is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in all of Barcelona. The architecture is some of the best in Barcelona, but unfortunately I think it gets a little overlooked because a large swath of it sits between points on the tourist path. Luckily, every time I turn around there's a new restaurant, shop, hotel or bar that's putting my corner of paradise back on the map."

EL BORN, BARCELONA

Curated by Editor Melissa Leighty

"I'm torn between loving Born and hating it. I hate it for the way it's constantly changing. Every year it's more overrun by tourism, and more of the original shops and restaurants are disappearing. But I also know that a lot of that change is also bringing new energy to the city. And no one can deny that Born has some of the best bars in the city. For that, I'll always love it."

SANT ANTONI, BARCELONA

Curated by Editor Marybeth Thompson

"Sant Antoni is a neighborhood that still holds together old and new very well. On Calle Mistral you can find all the 'yayas' lined up on their benches feeding the pigeons while only a couple of streets over, the hipsters gather at the newest bars and restaurants for their Sunday afternoon 'petite comité' over a vermouth. It's that amalgam that makes this neighborhood so special."
